The Exchange

Think on this...sometimes we look at the whole “Christian” thing incorrectly. We see God as a bully who wants to steal our lunch and ruin our fun. That couldn’t be further from the truth! I think we would be less reluctant to embrace what we have been offered from a God who loves us, if we saw things from the proper perspective. It’s more about an exchange, of the really small and insignificant for the huge and incredibly important in your life.

For instance, I grew up poor. A babysitter abused me. I have been in a gang. I felt less than important. My grades were horrible. That was my small and insignificant. You can see why I would trade that for something larger. But, your story may be, of middle to upper class roots. You may have had a loving, supportive and healthy home environment. You may never have been in a fight in your whole life. You may have never even seen anything lower than a B-. I would tell you that you still need an exchange. Why, because God has so much more for you then you could ever imagine.

The bible says, “A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.” John 10:10 God is not trying to ruin your fun He is trying to give you more than fun, that is, REAL LIFE. Whether down and out, or up and out, He loves you and is trying to rescue you from settling for the small, which seems big at the moment. He wants to give you the something so large that you can’t live it all in this lifetime. That is so amazing!...Just a thought.

  1. i like this--it reminds me of one of my favorite quotes (from the always on point c.s. lewis):

"Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."
